The Year for Priests
Pope Benedict XVI designated June 19 as the start of the special year, the Year for Priests, to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the death of St. John Vianney. The Pope has declared St. John Vianney, known as the Curé d'Ars, as the Universal Patron of Priests. Pope Benedict XVI has designated the year, which runs from June 19, 2009, to June 19, 2010, to encourage a deepening of the spiritual life of those called to priestly ministry.

One would have to stumble accidentally on the village of Ars-sur-Formans. The village is too small, too insignificant and too far off the beaten path to attract the interest of the average visitor or tourist to France.
